Vido 99 FC hammered Elegant FC 5-1 in the 1xCup 2025, as Madu Obinna scored a brace.

Vido 99 FC shows no mercy to Elegant FC in the ongoing 1xCup 2025 edition, scoring 5 goals to move to the next round of the tournament.

The game, played on Tuesday, 15th July, 2025, at the Inspire Sport Arena, Oshodi–Lagos, was a match day four fixture.

Vido 99 FC took advantage of the poor defending from Elegant FC and scored two goals in the first fifteen minutes of the game; Madu Obinna (jersey 9) and Saka Yusuf (jersey 11) scored the first and second goals, respectively.

Babatunde Lekan (jersey number 9), the centre forward of Elegant FC, scored one goal to bring the game alive, making the scoreline 2-1.

While Elegant FC were trying to put their hearts together and gather momentum, Vido 99 FC netted another goal through Bakara Akinsola, their jersey number 13; unfortunately, that was the last action for Bakara Akinsola, as he was substituted immediately after he scored due to injury.

Madu Obinna scores his second goal of the game before half-time to extend their lead to 4-1.

In the second half, Vido 99 FC created more chances but could only convert one. It was Justice Agor (jersey 6), who came in for the injured Bakara Akinsola in the first half, who scored the fifth goal for Vido 99 FC.

Elegant FC’s greatest undoing was the fact that they could not link up with their big striker Babatunde Lekan, who was in the mood to score, but no one could supply him with the ball.

I feel good about my brace; I felt I could have scored more goals in today’s game, but I give God all the glory.

Madu Obinna told fetubol.com.ng in a post-match interview, and when asked what he thinks his team should do better in the next round, he had this to say:

We must not relent because as we move on in this tournament, we are going to face stronger opposition. We must convert all our chances and also defend very well.

Madu Obinna after the match

Igwe Ikechukwu, the head coach of Vido 99 FC, after the game, said he expected his team to score more than five goals because the whole idea was to avoid penalty shootout.

He also appreciated all their fans who came out to support them, telling them to expect more wins from the team.

The winner of the 2025 edition of the 1xcup will be going home with ten million naira, while the second and third runners-up will go home with five million naira and three million naira, respectively.
