SC Union 03 Altona gained promotion on the last day of the 2024/2025 Oberliga (5th division) season thanks to a famous away victory against Nienstedten 2.
The match was a week -28 fixture played on Saturday, 10th May, 2025, in Hamburg, Germany.
The home team started the game with confidence as they took the lead in the 23rd minute of the game, and the first half ended in favour of the home team.
SC Union 03 came out from the dressing room more determined; Serhat Husnu’s goal in the 54th minute for SC Union 03 made the scoreline 1-1. Nienstedten took the lead again in the 66th minute to make life difficult for SC Union 03.
Dauda Ibrahim’s brace in the 77th and 82nd minutes ensured SC Union 03 equalised and took the lead for the first time in the game; Antonio Embalo’s 90th-minute goal sealed the victory for the victors as the game ended 2-4 in favour of SC Union 03.
The former Immaculate FC player has been in fine form since joining SC Union 03, scoring 9 goals and 4 assists in 10 league games for the German outfit and also helping them to secure promotion in his first season with the club.
Dauda Ibrahim has been selected for the league’s team of the week in his last five consecutive games before the last game of the season and also won 4 MOTM awards this season.
“After the game, the club president called me to appreciate my effort towards SC Union 03 promotion. I told him all glory belongs to God Almighty and also let him know it was a collective effort, not about me alone,” Dauda Ibrahim disclosed to futebol.com.ng in a post-match interview. When asked if he will play for SC Union 03 next season after his outstanding performance in his debut season, the Nigerian-born attacker has this to say:
For now I’m happy with SC Union 03, and I desire to make more history with the club, but as we all know, football is a game of movement. If I see a better offer, I might be tempted to leave, but for now, I am still a player of SC Union 03
SC Union 03 finished on the league table with 64 points after 28 games, while HEBC 3 and Nienstedten 2 finished second and third with 62 points and 56 points, respectively, with the same number of games.
SC Union 03 Altona will be playing in the German 4th division in the 2025/2026 football season.
